Slick conditions left traffic at a standstill in some areas of I-69 and other roads Wednesday morning due to several crashes.
Around 6:30 a.m. dispatchers began receiving calls of crashes on I-69 spanning from mile markers 309 down to 301 in both the north and southbound lanes.
Traffic in some areas of I-69 was at a standstill. Several viewers contacted WANE 15 and described both Illinois Road and I-69 in that area as “a sheet of ice.”
At 8:40 a.m. a rollover crash was reported on I-69 just south of the Illinois Road interchange.
Then at 8:45 a.m. a crash involving a semi and possibly another vehicle was reported at U.S. 30 and Doyle Road and at the same time a car apparently rear-ended a school bus on the Coldwater Road bridge over I-69. Only one minor injury was reported in that crash.
There were several other minor crashes across the Fort Wayne area. Other crashes were reported near the intersection of Ardmore and Engle Road, near Jefferson Blvd and Main Street, and at the intersection of Airport Expressway and Lower Huntington Road in the city of Fort Wayne.
All told, Fort Wayne Police responded to 30 property damage crashes and three crashes with injuries between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., records showed.
