Report: Drive-by shooting leaves man seriously hurt

A man was shot in the leg while riding in a van early Wednesday in an apparent drive-by.

Fort Wayne Police were called around 3:45 a.m. to the Lutheran Statewood emergency room location at East State and Coliseum boulevards after a man showed up there suffering from a gunshot wound. He was listed in serious condition.

A man with the victim at the hospital told police that they were leaving a night club when they realized they were being followed by a dark-colored vehicle. According to a police report, the man said as they approached the intersection of Anthony Boulevard and Creighton Avenue, the vehicle pulled alongside theirs and someone began shooting at them.

The victim was shot in the leg, the report said.

Another woman in the vehicle with the vicitm and the man said she, too, saw the dark-colored vehicle following their van, according to the report. The woman was “hysterical” at the hospital, police noted in the report.

After the shooting, the victims drove to the Lutheran Statewood emergency room location at East State and Coliseum boulevards.

Investigators took photos and gathered evidence at a scene connected to the case at the intersection of South Anthony Boulevard and Creighton Avenue. Broken glass was visible in the intersection.

The intersection was shut down while police investigated. They had cleared the scene by 4:30 a.m.
