The American Red Cross will hold a series of events around Fort Wayne aimed to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries from home fires.

The Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events will be held from April 28 to May 12. The events will encourage residents to install smoke detectors in their homes.

As of April 12, the Red Cross has installed 1,173,150 free smoke alarms through the events nationwide. In Indiana, more than 33,000 smoke alarms have been installed.

Over the next two weeks, the “Sound the Alarm” events will work to install 100,000 free smoke alarms for Fort Wayne residents.
