Two people were killed and seven others were hurt in a house fire in southern Michigan early Tuesday morning.
Fire crews responded to a home in the 100 block of West Chicago Avenue, White Pigeon, around 3:30 a.m. That’s about 20 miles northwest of LaGrange.
White Pigeon Assistant Fire Chief Tyler Royce said 11 people were living in the home at the time of the fire, including seven children.
A pregnant mother, her 7-year-old child, and a dog died. Seven other people were taken to the hospital, most with smoke inhalation. Two others were able to make it out of the house safely.
The pregnant mother was due to give birth in a few weeks.
Fire officials said there were working smoke detectors in the home.
There’s no word on a cause yet.
