Police standoff with burglary suspect ends peacefully

Local News

A man is in custody after being involved in a standoff with police Friday night.

Police said they were investigating a burglary that happened earlier in the day around 5:20 p.m. when they got information on the location of a possible suspect.

The tip led police to the 5000 block of Christofer Lane, near Hessen Cassel and Paulding roads.

Officers confirmed the suspect, Lovell Hamlet, 43, was inside the home and tried to get him to come out.

After he refused for a while, officers called for support from the Emergency Services Team and the Crisis Response Team around 10:45 p.m., according to police.

Negotiators tried communicating with Hamlet by cellphone and loud speaker.

After several attempts to get the man to come out peacefully, the Emergency Services Team used a flash bang to try and convince him to give up, police said.

Around 12:25 a.m. Hamlet finally came out of the home and police took him into custody without incident.

Detectives took him in for questioning about the burglary he was suspected of.

Hamlet is charged with burglary, a level four felony, and a misdemeanor charge for invasion of privacy.

Nobody was hurt in the incident and no other suspects were involved, according to police.
