Police search for West State Boulevard bank robber

Local News

A West State Boulevard bank branch was reportedly robbed Friday afternoon.

Police responded around 4 p.m. to the Flagstar Bank at 901 W. State Blvd. after an employee called saying the bank had been robbed.

Police say a tall black man wearing some sort of disguise passed a note to the teller saying a robbery was taking place and that he was armed.

The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running across Sherman Street to the East and into the alley behind the Dairy Queen.  A witness told police that a person matching the description of the suspect had gotten into a full size black in color vehicle that then fled the area.

Police used a K9 unit to track the man, but didn’t find anything.

No one was hurt and no weapons were actually seen.

The bank has been the target of robberies in the past. In September 2018, it was held up twice in four days.

Detectives are asking that anyone that has any additional information regarding this incident to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1201 or Allen County Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.
