A man was seriously hurt when police said he was struck by a vehicle after shots rang out after a fight near an east-side motel Thursday afternoon.

Fort Wayne Police were called around 1:15 p.m. to the Coliseum Inn motel at 1020 N. Coliseum Blvd. There, a dark-colored SUV was found, its rear driver’s side window shot out.

Sgt. Jim Seay with the Fort Wayne Police Department said investigators believe that two men were in the parking lot of the motel and they began to fight. During the altercation, shots were reportedly fired by one of the men, Seay said.

After that one of the men ran off, and the other man drove after him in a vehicle, ultimately striking him, Seay said.

The victim was hospitalized in serious condition, with injuries from being struck by a vehicle, Seay said. No one was hurt when shots were fired.

Police have not identified the victim. It’s not clear if police have a suspect in the case.

After the incident, police could be seen canvassing the area between the Coliseum Inn and the adjacent Dollar General. Police tape was wrapped around the area that included the Dollar General store and the parking lot of Vortex, with the SUV and another vehicle inside the off-limits area.
