Arrest made in shooting east of Arcola

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — An arrest has been made in a shooting that happened east of Arcola Sunday afternoon.

Police and medics were called around 4:30 p.m. to the 8000 block of Westwood Drive, near the intersection of Arcola and O’Day roads, after a neighbor called 911 to report his neighbor had been shot in the leg.

According to a police report, the suspect drove off in a black Dodge pickup.

A witness told police that the suspect went to the back door of the victim’s home and shouted, “You’re both f—ing dead.” He also broke the glass of a basement door, then sped off, the report said.

Investigators found 7 shell casings at the scene. The victim appeared to have gunshot wounds on his thigh area, the report said.

A short time after the shooting, the suspect was involved in a crash at Leesburg Road and Beineke Drive.

There, he was taken into custody.

Zebulen Rust, 43, is initially charged with Aggravated Battery, Criminal Recklessness and Operating While Intoxicated causing endangerment. He’s being held on $60,000 bond.
