A two-hour police situation at Lutheran Hospital ended without incident early Monday morning.
Fort Wayne police were called to the hospital on West Jefferson Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. after a patient barricaded himself inside his hospital room.
The man said he was armed with a screwdriver and threatened to hurt the hospital staff if they tried to enter his room, according to police.
Officers responded to the hospital and made several attempts to communicate with the man, but they were unsuccessful.
Around 12:30 a.m. officers called for assistance from the Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team.
A little over an hour later, around 1:40 a.m., EST members made entry into the hospital room and took the man into custody without incident, according to police.
Authorities kept the man at the hospital to get a psychiatric evaluation.
No other details were immediately available.
