Teen shot and killed on New Year's Eve

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A teenager is dead after police believe he was shot inside a car Monday afternoon.

He has been identified as 16-year-old Marlon Davis Jr., of Fort Wayne.

The Allen County Coroner's office says Davis Jr. was shot in the back, and his death was ruled as homicide.

Marlon Davis Jr. is the 44th homicide victim in Allen County for 2018.

Police were called to a Fort Wayne hospital around 4:30 p.m. after Davis Jr. was dropped off, where he later died.

Investigators spoke with possible witnesses who said the shooting occurred near the intersection of Lafayette St. and Williams St. Several shell casings were also found in the street. 

Police believe Davis Jr. was inside a vehicle when he was shot. 

WANE 15 spoke with Davis Jr.'s family Wednesday morning. They say there will be a vigil for him on Friday. We'll bring those details when they become available.

The lead detective on the case says there are no additional details regarding the incident as of Wednesday morning.

There is not suspect information or vehicle information that has been released. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the Fort Wayne Police Department Detective Bureau at 427-1201 or call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.
