Pipes burst at PFW Gates Center, gymnasium the main concern

Local News

Standing water covered much of Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Hilliard Gates Sports Center after two pipes burst Thursday afternoon.

The first pipe burst around 1:30 p.m. and was contained. The second broke around 6:30 p.m. According to a member of the maintenance staff, anywhere from 20,000 to 40,000 square feet were affected. He says their main concern is the gymnasium.

PFW’s Athletic Director, Kelley Hartley Hutton says the cleanup is expected to last through the night. She says tomorrow’s indoor track meet has been canceled because of the water.
