PFW puts women’s basketball coach on administrative leave

Local News

Purdue Fort Wayne has placed head women’s basketball coach Niecee Nelson on administrative leave for a “pending personnel matter.”

The move was announced in a news release Tuesday afternoon. Purdue Fort Wayne Director of Athletics Kelley Hartley Hutton did not provide a reason for the decision, calling it a “pending personnel matter.”

Assistant coach Marcie Alberts will fill in for Nelson as coach during “upcoming games,” the release said.

“Coach Alberts will provide outstanding leadership during this time,” said Hartley Hutton. “This is a pending personnel matter, so it is not appropriate for me to provide additional details at this time.”

The Mastodons are 6-17, with three straight losses. Purdue Fort Wayne has five games remaining before the Summit League tournament.

Nelson is in her third season as the Mastodons head coach. She previously served as an assistant coach in the program during the 2004-05 season and went on to serve as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego for 11 seasons.
