PFW student rescues woman from St. Joseph River

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A woman was pulled from the St. Joseph River near the Purdue Fort Wayne campus.

Before first responders arrived, Noah Olson, a freshman at PFW, jumped in after the woman.

He said he did it without thinking, and that he did what anyone would do in that situation. However, he might have saved her life.

The woman's condition is not known at this time, but university spokesperson Nicole Hahn said the woman was taken to a local hospital.

Olson said he knew something was wrong when he saw the woman on the other side of the railing.

When she jumped off of the bridge, he went in after her from the shore, pulling her out of the water, and comforting her until police arrived.

Olson said, "I was planning on getting her out no matter what."
