Person in critical condition in early New Year's Eve shooting

Police launched an investigation early Monday after a shooting left a man in critical condition, after what police believe may have been a home invasion.

Authorities were called to the 9200 block of Spring Breeze Court around 3:40 a.m. on report of suspicious activity. The 911 caller said they saw people walking in the area.

City dispatchers were on the phone with the caller when they heard gunshots in the background.

A short time later, around 3:58 a.m., a man arrived by private means at an area hospital after having been shot. Medics determined him to be in critical condition.

FWPD say they believe the two incidents are related. Police say the victim who arrived at the hospital matches the description of the man who was seen at the Spring Breeze home.

A nearby neighbor awoke to hearing the gunshots this morning.

"Right after I woke up when I heard the gun fire, I saw a car leave, it was silent I don't even know if it had it's headlights on, but it was just a few moments after." The neighbor said.

Police are canvassing the area, attempting to locate anyone who may have seen anybody or heard anything. Crime scene technicians are also working to process the scene.

No information was provided with regard to a suspect.

The shooting remains under investigation.
