FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Park Center is set to become an affiliate of Parkview Health, come October 1.
"This affiliation allows us to come together to provide a continuity of care unlike that this region has seen before," Sr. V.P. of Behavioral Health Services for Parkview Health Chuck Clark said.
The mix of Park Center's experience with outpatient care in the behavioral health industry and Parkview's resources with inpatient care will marry up creating new opportunities.
One goal of the affiliation is to offer more immediate help than has been available in the Fort Wayne area.
"When somebody is really anxious or depressed, it's very difficult for them to wait for any length of time for the services," Park Center CEO Paul Wilson explained.
"We'll be able to intervene earlier, which will have a huge impact on outcomes and people's health," Clark added.
Not only is this about immediacy, but preventive care. Doctors will have new resources to help patients detect mental health issues. The two groups have experience in working together and sharing resources, especially when it comes to finding ways to solve the opioid problem.
"I think what has driven this whole process is that the leadership at Parkview and the leadership at Park Center have the same values and the same interests," Wilson said. "We really want to do care better, and differently when it comes to behavioral health in northeast Indiana."
With the partnership, comes more job opportunities.
"We really believe that by this affiliation, we'll be able to recruit more psychiatrists to our area, more therapists and other mental health professionals," Clark added.
