The Fort Wayne area has been well represented on NBC’s “The Voice” lately. A 17-year-old from Ossian has won the Snapchat version of the singing competition.
While Addisen Agen and Christiana Danielle have won over millions of fans on the T.V. show, Nik Roach garnered fans on “The Voice on Snapchat.”
“The experience was 100 percent surreal,” Roach said.
Roach was one of thousands of people to audition. Sixteen people were chosen by the competition’s four coaches. Adam Levine chose Roach to be on his team.
Next, Snapchat users kept voting Roach to the next round as he impressed them with his voice and ukulele skills. He performed songs such as Vance Joy’s “Riptide” and Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
“Music is a release for when I have negative points in my life,” Roach explained. “I’ve always just kind of fell back on music. Singing is my way of getting rid of those negative feelings in a more positive way to counteract the negativity.”
Well, Positivity is definitely winning. Roach was announced the winner of “The Voice on Snapchat” on a live airing of the Voice T.V. show on May 1.
“It was always a dream,” he said, reflecting on the experience. “A few years ago I would always say, ‘I’m going to be on this show. you guys are going to know who I am,’ but it never actually happened because I never actively went out to pursue it and do it, but this year it was my year and I’m going to do what I want to no matter who’s trying to stop me. Now that I have done it, it just kind of feels like it’s not happening, but it is and it just feels absolutely amazing. It was an awesome experience and I couldn’t be any more grateful for it.”
Now that Roach has conquered “The Voice on Snapchat,” he plans to audition for the T.V. show next season.
