One injured in DeKalb County crash

One person was hurt and two vehicles were badly damaged following a crash Thursday. 

Sheriff’s in DeKalb County say 64 year-old William Newman of Butler was traveling east on Auburn Drive around 4:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line. His pickup collided with the front driver’s side tire of a Freightliner. 

Newman suffered minor injuries to his face and was taken to a hospital. The driver of the Freightliner, 72 year-old William Reil of New Haven, was not injured.  

The crash resulted in approximately $1,000 of damages to the Freightliner. The pickup truck was totaled. 

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the crash site by Auburn Fire, Auburn Police Department and DeKalb EMS.

Authorities did not say what caused Newman to cross into oncoming traffic. The incident remains under investigation.
