Investigators in Van Wert, Ohio are awaiting medical examination reports will provide the information necessary to determining the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant back on June 28.

Van Wert County Deputy Coroner Dr. Norman Means told NewsChannel 15 the preliminary investigation doesn’t show any signs of foul play.

Just after 3:20 pm on that date,  the Van Wert Police Department received a 911 call regarding an infant that had stopped breathing.

The dispatcher gave the caller CPR instructions while police made their way to the 800 block of Leeson Avenue where the call had been placed.

When emergency medical personnel arrived, they took the infant to a Van Wert hospital where the child was declared dead.

Detectives with the Van Wert Police Department began in investigation into what happened and an agent with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal identification and Investigation was called to the scene.

Van Wert County Prosecutor Eva Yarger is involved with the investigation as well as the Van Wert Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Dr. Means said results of the medical examination will take a few weeks. Once the investigation is completed, the Van Wert Police Department indicated on Tuesday that it will issue an update.
