Soon craft beer lovers will be able to travel across the region getting their beer trail passport stamped.
Over the last several months representatives from breweries ranging from Fort Wayne to South Bend and places in-between have been meeting to get to know one another. Then the interest in joining together on future projects took off.
Tuesday night they had a meeting at Hop River Brewing Company, and signed the paperwork to soon become the Northern Indiana Brewers Association. This association will encourage local collaboration within the craft beer industry and engagement with locals and travelers in the craft beer community.
They are currently working on a brew that will be a collaboration of all the members of the association, it will be of the Hoppy Wheat variety. Perhaps the bigger collaboration will be the release of the Northern Indiana Beer Trail Passport.
"Being a part of the passport is going to be good for all the individual breweries and all of us collectively. It's gonna drive business and it's going to allow us to get to know each other better and educate the community. That's probably our main focus, is just educating them as to what good beer there is very near to their back doorstep." says David Tomaszewki, the Co-Owner of Summit City Brewerks.
Both of those items will be released simultaneously, during the first week of September leading up to "Brewed IN the Fort" on September 8th. You will be able to get both the collaboration brew and the passport at all member locations. As you make your way through the trail you will be able to get a stamp at each stop, eventually earning a prize on a tiered system.
The number of members of the Northern Indiana Brewers Association may grow in the future but the current breweries involved include: 2Toms Brewing, Auburn Brewing, Bare Hands Brewery, Chapman’s Brewing Company, Evil Czech Brewery, Goshen Brewing Company, GuessWork Brewing Company, HopLore Brewing, Hop River Brewing Company, Junk Ditch Brewing Company, Laotto Brewing, Mad Anthony Brewing Company, Orthocity Brewing, Summit City Brewerks, and Trubble Brewing.
