A new Planet Fitness is now open in Fort Wayne’s Southeast side. The gym has been open for a month, but held a ribbon cutting Monday.
The celebration was held in the afternoon with prize givaways including a flat screen smart TV and a 12-month gym membership. Mayor Tom Henry and other community leaders were there, looking forward to the positivity it’ll bring to the city’s southeast quadrant.
Located at 7528 South Anthony Blvd., this is the fourth Planet Fitness location in the Summit City with the three other quadrants of Fort Wayne already having one.
“The convenience is great,” said member Matthew Govan Jr. “I used to go all the way out west just to reach the Planet Fitness and now that it’s on my side of town i’m here every day. We don’t have a lot to do on the southside. So putting the gym over here is one of the best ideas they could have done. I see a lot of people who are enjoying it.”
The fitness company has a goal to create a judgement free planet and build up today’s kids as a judgement free generation. At the ribbon cutting, they donated $5,000 to the Fort Wayne Boys and Girls Club.
CEO Joe Jordan is grateful for the gesture and overjoyed to see a prominent health establishment on this side of town.
“I applaud them for putting this Planet Fitness on the Southeast side of Fort Wayne,” he said. “It has suffered from economic development opportunities and hopefully this can help motivate and encourage other businesses to come in to serve this incredible side of town.”
Planet Fitness is building a mini-Planet Fitness inside the new Boys and Girls Club facility, which opens in April.
The new gym on South Anthony Blvd. is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
