Residents of an unincorporated neighborhood off Dupont Road between Lima and Coldwater roads wants to be part of the City of Fort Wayne.

More than half of property owners in La Cabreah signed the petition for voluntary annexation, according to city officials. That number meets the threshold needed for the request.

The first step in the process is for the City’s Planning and Policy Department to write a fiscal plan which outlines the services such as police and fire protection, leaf pickup and pothole repairs for new residents.

If approved, the voluntary annexation would bring 174 residential properties and nearly 105 acres inside the city limits. School district boundaries won’t be affected.

The fiscal plan will be brought before Fort Wayne City Council with an ordinance and a resolution. It must also meet state requirements including three public informational meetings and a public hearing before council.

If no objections are filed and it’s council members approve it, the annexation would take effect in spring 2019.
