Near-downtown tire shop held up

Armed men reportedly held up a Fairfield Avenue tire shop early Monday afternoon.

Fort Wayne Police were called around 1:20 to Lenus Tire Shop at 1321 Fairfield Ave. on a report of an armed robbery. Authorities said two man entered the shop and “robbed it of an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Police said after the robbery, employees of the tire shop followed the suspects and a block away, at Fairfield Avenue and Taylor Street, the get-away vehicle crashed. The suspects then got out of the vehicle and ran off on foot, police said.

A tan pickup could be seen crashed along the sidewalk and a small SUV, crashed in a lawn nearby.

A female passenger in the suspect’s vehicle was found by authorities, police said. She has been detained and was being questioned by detectives, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
