Motorcyclist suffers broken arm after crashing on icy interstate

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department investigators said a motorcyclist lost control on a patch of ice Tuesday morning.

The crash happened near mile marker 329 and the exit for State Road 8 in Auburn.

Investigators said the motorcyclist, identified as 57-year-old Randall Hire of Fort Wayne, was northbound on the interstate when he hit a patch of ice on the bridge near the entrance ramp.

The motorcycle went off the road and his the cable barriers in the median. Hire was thrown from the bike and suffered a broken arm, according to the department.

Hire was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

It’s not clear if Hire was wearing a helmet.
