Fire badly damaged a mobile home early Saturday morning.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to 6422 Walnut Valley Drive around 1:20 a.m.

A fire department statement said the first arriving crews found heavy fire from the attic of the home. The fire was under control in 25 minutes. Fire officials said the home suffered heavy fire, smoke, and water damage.

Fire officials said one pet died in the fire, but the resident of the home died recently and the home was unoccupied. The home was under the care of the woman’s grandson, according to fire officials who spoke to NewsChannel 15 Overnight Reporter Rachel Russel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
