Missing Kendallville man found dead

Local News

A Kendallville man who has been missing since mid-February was found dead near where he was last seen.

John W. Slone was reported missing on February 14, 2019, by his mother Linda Slone. She said John had not been heard from since February 7.

Slone was last seen on February 6 in 2300 block of Mapes Rd by a relative. Slone was gone, leaving nothing but his cell phone, when the relative returned to the scene. They told authorities Slone may have been intoxicated that morning.

Nearly a month later on Thursday, March 14, Noble County authorities received a report of a possible deceased person in a swampy area near the residence Slone was last scene at.

Slone’s body was found and later identified in an area that was covered in ice and snow when it was previously searched by investigators.

The case is still under investigation pending autopsy reports, but police believe there was no foul play in the incident.
