Marganelle Henry, mother of 17 including Mayor Tom Henry, dies

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Marganelle Applegate Henry, mother of 17 children, including Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry died early Monday.

According to Jessica Henry, one of Marganelle's daughters, the matriarch passed away at the home where she raised the children with Jerome Henry, Sr.

Jerome died in November of 2008. 

The couple also had more than 60 grandchildren and 95 great grandchildren. 

The Henry name has become a staple in the Fort Wayne community with many children and spouses running businesses around the city, which includes Jessica, the executive director of the Allen County SPCA. 

In a tweet Wednesday, Mayor Tom Henry wrote: "Goodbyes are never easy, especially when it’s your mother. She touched the lives of many people, spreading kindness, joy, and love to her family, friends, and neighbors. I love you Mom and will miss you dearly. You will always be in our hearts."

Marganelle was born May 31, 1929. She was 89 years old. 

A visitation will be held Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home at 3500 Lake Ave. A funeral service is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church at 1515 Barthold St., with a calling one hour beforehand at the church.
