Man shot in the street, critically hurt

Local News

Fort Wayne police are investigating after they said a man was shot while walking down the sidewalk on the city’s south side.

Police were initially alerted to gunshots being fired in the area of Paulding Road and Webster Street around 11:34 p.m. Monday. Officials said several people called 911 saying they heard the shots.

Officers responded to the area and began searching for evidence of a shooting. They eventually found several shell casings in the street in the 5400 block of Webster Street, near Belmont Street.

Police also discovered a vehicle and nearby house with bullet holes in them.

While officers were investigating the scene, emergency dispatchers received a call from a hospital telling them a shooting victim Menelik Sizemore, 27, had been dropped off there. Medics immediately transferred Sizemore to another hospital for further treatment where he remains in critical condition.

Detectives were going door-to-door into the early morning talking with potential witnesses to try and gather more information about what happened.

No suspect information was immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-STOP.
