One man was hospitalized after a crash involving a semi-truck in Waterloo.

Police were called to the crash at the intersection of U.S. 6 and C.R. 27  around 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

According to police, a van was going south on C.R. 27 when it reached the stop sign. The driver, Jack Kimmel, 48 of Ashley, Ind., stopped and waited for crossing traffic, but when he began to enter the intersection he failed to yield to the oncoming semi-truck and the two crashed.

The semi was traveling west on U.S. 6 when  the driver, Gerald Jarnecke, 51 of Hanna, Ind., said Kimmel pulled out in front of him. Jarnecke said he was unable to stop in time before hitting Kimmel in the driver’s side rear panel. The van was totaled.

Kimmel complained of neck pain and was taken to the hospital. Jarnecke was not hurt.
