The Special Olympics DeKalb County Basketball team were welcomed home and honored at a reception this afternoon.
They took home gold on Friday, beating Team Nevada 31 to 30 in Seattle. The celebration was held at the Auburn Y-M-C-A.
Community members lined the entry way to greet them as the they arrived on a float. Banners of the team members were hung in the gym and each player was recognized.
“The whole community across the state embraces these wonderful people that we can do a lot,” said head coach, Rob Allen. “Just include us, remember us, and help us get just one more step down the road and we can move mountains.”
They are the first Team Indiana to win gold.
