KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – Police investigated a string of reports over the weekend of people posing as delivery drivers and allegedly asking homeowners for personal information, including one incident in Fort Wayne that led to a fight.

A Facebook post Saturday said Kendallville Police were receiving calls about people pretending to be delivery drivers- with one of the suspects even wearing a FedEx shirt- holding a damaged package and asking residents for personal information. The post included photos of the vehicle involved, a gray Honda with an Indiana license plate.

According to a release from Kendallville Police on Monday, officers got reports of these suspicious interactions from homeowners in Kendallville, LaOtto and Avilla.

Officers investigated and identified one of the suspects as 19-year-old Trace Melching from Fort Wayne. Police determined Melching and his friends have been posing as delivery drivers around the area “to create content for YouTube videos.”

At least one incident with the group reportedly led to a physical altercation in Fort Wayne.

Melching said he never asked homeowners for personal information, according to the release, just a signature for the damaged package.

Kendallville Police said Melching was warned for violating city ordinance, and there are no criminal charges at this time.
