Republican John Crawford has hinted for quite some time he might run for Fort Wayne mayor in 2019 and Monday evening he made it official.

The at-large city councilman made his announcement at the GOP Lincoln Day Dinner held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Conference Center on Washington Center Road where the three Republican candidates for U.S. Senate took part in a debate.

Crawford said he’ll talk more in depth about the decision at a press conference scheduled for May 15.

Three-term incumbent Tom Henry, a Democrat, has not yet announced whether he’ll seek a fourth term.

Paul Helmke was the last Republican to hold the mayor’s seat in Fort Wayne.  He chose not to run following his third term which ended in 1999.

Tim Smith, also plans on running for mayor in the Republican primary.  He has a website timsmithformayor.com.  According to the website, Smith is Vice President of Operations and IT ad MedPro Group in Fort Wayne.
