Indiana lawmakers again call for AG Hill’s impeachment

Local News

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Tuesday evening, all of the women who accused Attorney General Curtis Hill of inappropriate touching braved the cameras for the first time in quite a while.

Tuesday morning and afternoon, several state lawmakers called on Hill to be impeached. Democrat State Senator Tim Lanane said he doesn’t think Hill is fit to serve in his position.

Last month, a special prosecutor found Hill hadn’t committed any crimes, despite the accusations against him.

Democrat State Representative Mara Candelaria-Reardon and three legislative staffers say Hill groped them while at a party to mark the end of the legislative session earlier this year

State Rep. Candelaria-Reardon explained, “I think he should be impeached. I think that he is no longer able to do his job effectively, and that is ground for impeachment.”

State Senator Tim Lanane explained Tuesday afternoon, “I’ve got to tell you as one of the original leaders that called for Hill’s resignation, I think it would be inconsistent now to say that we shouldn’t do an impeachment process. If we thought the acts were egregious enough to say he had to voluntarily step down, if he refuses to do that, as he has, then I can’t see where we shouldn’t call for his impeachment.”

News 8 caught up with House Speaker, Brian Bosma Tuesday afternoon.

“Are we under terrible circumstances on what occurred? Yes we are. Wrong? Absolutely. Impeachable offense? That’s going to be in the eye of the beholder,” Bosma explained. “I will tell you I think an impeachment proceeding, that’s probably all we would get done in the coming session. We have many critical issues that I just ran through….If somebody files it, we’ll deal with it.”

The women’s attorney says they are still in the process of filing a civil lawsuit against Hill. The A.G would not take our, or anyone’s questions about impeachment during a news conference Tuesday morning.

News 8 has spoken with Hill’s spokespeople throughout the day Tuesday. We have asked for a comment from Hill. When we hear back, we will let you know.
