COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – Thousands of Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) customers across northeast Indiana were without power Friday and into Saturday.
Over 2,000 customers are without power in Whitley County Friday, according to an I&M outage map.
In total, I&M said over 10,000 customers lost power across its coverage areas of northeast, north central and east central Indiana, as well as southwest Michigan.
I&M also said crews had to repair or replace over 200 spans of downed wires and 16 broken poles, prompting business partners from as far as Louisiana to assist in restoring power to customers.
On Saturday morning, I&M reported that roughly 700 customers in the Fort Wayne area were still without power and that power should be restored to those areas around 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
In the meantime, I&M said customers should be careful around downed power lines and debris.
