ID made on body found under 900-pound safe in Marion garage

Local News

Marion police are investigating a death after a man’s body was found underneath an antique floor safe Wednesday night.

In a news release, the department said George Hollingsworth reported to police on Tuesday that his garage at his home in the 600 Block of West 3rd Street looked like it had been broken into. He said the garage door frame had been damaged. Hollingsworth told officers that his garage was packed with clutter and he’d start sorting and cleaning it up on Wednesday.

As he was going through the items in the garage to see if anything had been stolen, Hollinsworth noticed his antique floor safe was knocked over. That’s when he found the body of a man lying underneath the safe. The 900-pound safe had been suspended by a floor jack.

Police have identified the man as 28-year-old Jeremiah A. Disney of Marion.

Firefighters from the Marion Fire Department were called to lift the safe to remove Disney’s body.
