Huntington University administrator resigns amid sex assault allegations

Local News

A Huntington University administrator is out amid an allegation of sexual assault.

A spokesperson for the university told NewsChannel 15 Vince Haupert, the Vice President for Advancement, resigned Tuesday Aug. 7. His resignation came exactly a week after a report of sexual assault was filed with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department.

NewsChannel 15 has obtained a copy of the initial complaint that was called in on July 31. A man told authorities his stepson was sexually assaulted by his mentor who is employed at the university. That employee was identified in the report as Haupert.

The assault reportedly took place at Haupert’s home in the 4600 block of West 500 North.

Calls to Haupert were not returned to NewsChannel 15.

A reason for his resignation was not provided by a university spokesperson. A representative said comments are limited due to the investigation and out of respect for individuals involved.

The Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel said the investigation has been turned over to the Indiana State Police. Stoffel said he wanted to avoid a potential conflict of interest between the university and his department.
