A Huntington County Community Schools bus with two students on board was involved in a crash early Tuesday.

The school district said in a press release that Bus 44 was involved in a crash just after 7 a.m. while on Etna Avenue. The bus was headed north when a southbound car lost control, crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital.

Two high school students were on the bus at the time. They were not hurt. The driver of the bus also was unharmed.

“School buses continue to be the safest transportation to and from school,” said Transportation Director Vanessa Fields. “This accident was barely felt by anyone on the bus.”

Superintendent Randy Harris said the district was grateful the crash was relatively minor.

“All of us are thankful that no one was seriously injured in the bus accident,” said Harris. “I also want to thank Vanessa Fields, Director of Transportation, and Bus Driver Dan Scheie for the way they handled this situation.”
