ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Power was restored Saturday night in most areas of Fort Wayne after storms caused numerous outages.

Just under 1,000 I&M customers in Allen County were without power Saturday morning. That number dropped by the evening to fewer than 100, according to the I&M outage map, helping the company reach their estimated goal of at least 90% restoration in the Fort Wayne area by 11 p.m.

The Elkhart area is estimated to be fully restored by 7 p.m. Sunday, and East Central Indiana and the area of South Bend are estimated to be restored by 11 p.m. Sunday.

More crews- coming to Indiana and Michigan from as far as Tennessee- were headed to the areas with outages, joining the hundreds of workers already working to restore power, I&M said.

The company reported winds up to 73 mph caused damage leading to outages, like trees hitting power lines. I&M said crews have found more than 220 spans of downed wire and more than 120 broken or damaged poles.

The City of Fort Wayne reported traffic signal outages Saturday at these intersections:

  • Hanna and Oxford streets
  • North Anthony Boulevard and St. Joe River Drive
  • South Thomas Road at Target and Lowe’s
  • Maplecrest and Rothman roads

I&M noted additional storms are possible again Sunday, which could delay the safe restoration of power, affect estimated times of restoration and cause additional outages.
