Hoosiers purchase alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday for the first time

Local News

Hoosiers celebrating Super Bowl Sunday got to do a first this time around. They were able to purchase alcohol the day of the game.

Until 2018, Indiana restricted Sunday alcohol sales to bars and restaurants. That changed when Gov. Eric Holcomb signed Senate Bill 1 on February 28, 2018. Hoosiers were then able to buy alcohol from liquor and convenience stores the following Sunday, March 4, 2018.

WANE 15 spoke to shoppers at the Kroger store on W. State Blvd. They said being able to purchase alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday made life so much easier.

“Living in Ohio as many years as I did, Indiana was one of those states where you couldn’t go and buy alcohol on Sundays, so we kind of stayed away from it. But now that they passed the law, it’s pretty cool,” said Cory Gallant.

“It’s nice. Not even counting the Super Bowl, it’s just nice for Sundays. I’m one of those guys that used to drive to Ohio every Saturday or Sunday,” said shopper Larry Nelson.
