Honor Flight Northeast Indiana is celebrating 10 years of flying veterans to Washington D.C. for free.
The 27th flight took off Wednesday morning from the 122nd Fighter Wing. It’s the first flight of the 10th year for the organization.
Before the flight departed, flight participants gathered for an early morning breakfast and send-off ceremony.
Eighty-four veterans are took the trip this time around, representing four different wars:
- 11 WWII Veterans
- 66 Korean War Veterans
- 2 Cold War Veterans
- 5 Vietnam Veterans
Since Honor Flight Northeast Indiana was founded in March of 2008, a total of 1,960 veterans have flown to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor.
It’s all made possible by donations as 95 percent of donation money goes directly toward funding the veterans’ trips. You can learn more about the organization and donate here.
