Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb will kick off Fort Wayne’s holiday season by lighting the tree at the Christmas on Broadway event.
The celebration was held Friday, Nov. 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of 35,000 lights on a 40-foot Colorado Spruce by Holcomb, followed by a fireworks display in front of the Shine & Hardin building on the Broadway Plaza.
More than 4,000 people were expected at the event.
“We are pleased to have Governor Holcomb join the thousands of attendees who are present for the event, as well as those who view the festivities on television,” said law partners Steve Shine and Tom Hardin of the law firm of Shine & Hardin, who have organized the event since its inception 14 years ago. “Governor Holcomb’s participation demonstrates his commitment to our neighborhoods and families by being present to share the spirit of the holidays in the core of the City of Fort Wayne.”
Guests to the event enjoyed hot chocolate and eggnog, and could take advantage of free activities like a visit and photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus, rides on the Polar Express train and the chance to see and pet a live reindeer.
After the tree lighting and fireworks display, Tower of Power: 50th Anniversary Tour 2018 with special guests The Sweetwater All-Stars Holiday Celebration performed an all-ages show at the Clyde Theatre in nearby Quimby Village.
