FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman is dead after a shooting Wednesday at an apartment on the city’s southeast side, Fort Wayne Police confirmed.

Police and emergency crews could be seen in the 6000 block of Bunt Drive, starting around 11:30 a.m. Several people had reported hearing gunshots, FWPD said in a release.

Police at the scene were told a man came to the victim’s apartment and the victim was shot after opening the door. The suspect then ran away.

The woman, who has not been identified yet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was also in the apartment, but was not injured, police said. 

There were no immediate details on a suspect, but FWPD said there is a possible person of interest.

Wednesday, crime scene technicians collected evidence at the scene and investigators looked for witnesses and potential video surveillance.
