Health department rejects Facebook page’s restaurant grades

Local News

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health issued an “IMPORTANT NOTICE” on Friday, distancing itself from a Facebook page that has posted grades for local restaurants with inspection reports from the health department.

According to the notice, the Facebook page “Allen County Indiana Breaking News” has created a “grading system” and posted self-issued grades for various restaurants around Fort Wayne. The page then linked to the health department’s inspection information on its website, which the department said could make it appear as if it was associated with the Facebook page.

“The Department of Health is not at all associated with this news site,” the department wrote in the notice. “Our Department was in no way part of the posting of the grades. To be clear, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Dept. of Health currently doesn’t assign grades to food establishments.”

The notice encouraged anyone with questions or concerns with the “grades” to contact the Facebook page’s administrator or a legal professional.

‘It is our mission to promote the health, safety, and well-being of all residents in our community and in accordance with state and local laws,” the health department wrote in the notice.
