Hazmat situation on Purdue Fort Wayne's campus

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A hazmat crew was called to Purdue Fort Wayne's campus Monday night for a reported refrigerant leak in the chiller unit.

According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, freon had leaked from a cooling system in a building in the back part of campus. School officials were unable to reach the company responsible for the cooling system, so they called in a hazmat crew.

The crew worked for over two hours to stop the leak. Once the hazmat team stopped the leak, they released the building back over to the the school's maintenance staff.

A firefighter on scene said there was never any danger to the public. No injuries were reported.
