FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 5000 blk. of Rothman Road early Tuesday morning. Calls for the fire came in around 12:30 a.m. in a home off of St. Joe Road.
According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, six people self-evacuated the home. However, fire crews did need to rescue three pets, unfortunately, one died.
Fire crews started working on the fire throughout the first floor, garage and attic space, as the home started to collapse. It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. The home suffered heavy fire, water and smoke damage, according to a FWFD release.
It’s unknown if smoke detectors were working at the time of the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
