Funding board OKs purchase of downtown Fort Wayne block

Local News

The Allen County Capital Improvement Board on Thursday approved $6 million for the purchase of the downtown Fort Wayne block where Taco Bell, Rally’s and King Gyros sit.

The block is bordered by Webster Street to the east, West Jefferson Boulevard to the south, Ewing Street to the west, and an alleyway to the north; the Allen County Public Library’s parking lot was not included in the deal.

The land had previously been eyed as the location for a new downtown arena, but the board said Thursday there are no plans in place for the land.

The purchase will happen in two phases over three years, officials said, with a closing date on the first part set in June. Funds from the Food and Beverage Tax will be used for the purchase.
