Fort Wayne police said they are conducting an investigation with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office after a 5-day-old infant was “critically injured.”

City police spokesman Officer Michael Joyner said the infant was taken to an emergency room by family members. Police were then contacted by the hospital.

Joyner said detectives have not figured out how the infant was injured or who might be responsible.

An address on a police statement listed 2117 Oakley Street but it’s unclear what happened there or how it’s connected to the child’s injuries.

The type of injuries sustained by the child have not been disclosed.
