Fort Wayne barbershop owner wins $50K in lotto

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The owner of a central Fort Wayne barbershop won $50,000 from the Hoosier Lottery.

Scott Williams, the owner of Jesse & Sons Barbershop on South Hanna Street, won the Daily 4 drawing on July 20. His numbers: 1-1-1-1.

Williams told lottery officials that he was cutting someone's hair at his shop when a customer called to tell him his numbers had been drawn.

“Everybody knows I play,” said Williams.

Williams was one of 917 who won the Daily 4 that Friday, with more than $2 million in potential prizes. Of those, the Hoosier Lottery said that 799 tickets hit 1-1-1-1 on a straight bet.

A $1 straight wager that matches all four numbers results in a $5,000 prize. Williams wagered $10.

Williams said he plans to use his prize money to update to his barbershop, and to start a new business. Williams, who took over the barbershop his family opened nearly 60 years ago, said he loves running the shop and serving the community.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” he said.
