Local News

The City of Fort Wayne has appointed Patrick Zaharako to city engineer.

Zaharako has served as assistant city engineer and flood control manager since 2013. Prior to his city employment, Zaharako was a project manager for Commonwealth Engineers from 1993 to 2013.

“Patrick has taken leading roles on many large scale projects in recent years,” said Shan Gunawardena, Director of the Public Works Division. “I’m confident his leadership and experience will continue as we move forward on new endeavors that address transportation improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.”

Zaharako earned his MBA from Indiana University and undergraduate degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He is a registered professional engineer.

Zaharako also served six years in the Indiana National Guard as a combat medic/EMT, according to a statement from the city.

Zaharako replaces Shan Gunawardena who was promoted to Director of Public Works last year.
