Fight, mistaken sound of gunfire draws police to Glenbrook Mall

Local News

Several police officers including a tactical team responded to Glenbrook Square Mall after a fight and the mistaken sound of gunfire were called in.

Around 1:45 p.m., WANE 15 learned that numerous police officers had descended upon the mall at Coldwater Road and Coliseum Boulevard. Sources told WANE 15 a commotion happened around the food court of the mall.

According to Fort Wayne police, there was a group of people fighting in the area of the food court.  During that fight there was a loud bang. One woman told WANE 15 that her sister was in the food court when she heard what sounded like gun shots, and saw people running. The woman said her sister then ran out of the mall.

Officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department searched the mall and determined that there were no shots fired in the Glenbrook Square Mall.

The people involved in the fight are being questioned by investigators.

Fort Wayne police did say that there is a construction area near the food court and crews could have dropped something or something could have fallen causing the loud bang.

Police say the mall is safe.
