FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  East Allen County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Folks says it’s simply time for him to retire. He made that announcement at Tuesday’s board meeting and he talked about his accomplishments along with what his plans are for the future.

In a letter to the East Allen County Schools Board of Trustees, Folks said, in part, that he’s “proud of the impact our Board and our staff has had on East Allen during my tenure. It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity to be part of the great accomplishments we have made over the past few years. I know you took a chance four years ago when you hired me, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your superintendent. It has been a life-changing experience for me!”

Folks has been in education for 36 years.. the last four at E.A.C.S. He said it’s hard to pinpoint just one or two things he’s most proud of during his tenure. He’s improved school safety, empowered teachers and students, and had an open-door policy so that everyone in the district could provide input to make things better.

“I would have to say the building project we’re currently undertaking is a great accomplishment as well,” Folks said. “It hasn’t been accomplished yet, but we’re on the road. And at the board meeting last night we saw renderings of the new New Haven 7-12 building. And it just brings a huge smile to your face and you get so proud because we’re basically transforming this school corporation.”

His last day with the district will be June 30. Folks said he and wife will spend time with their adult sons who live out of state and he still plans to be involved in the community in some way.
